Faith

How do you explain faith to a 5 (almost 6) year old and a 4 year old? This is why we always start in prayer, "please Lord show us..."

We talked about faith during our family devotion time today and we focused on one verse. Hebrews 11:6, which says, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
Wow, without faith it is impossible... not improbable, not there might be a way. Nope it is clearly stated that it is impossible to please God. Why is that? Well, what is faith?

My explanation to them...
Faith is believing in something or someone who we might not be able to see with our eyes but know is there. Just like we know the wind exists because we see the trees and our flag move. We can even feel the wind. So, that is like God. We see what He has created and we can feel that He is with us because He gives us peace and joy, but we don't see Him with our eyes. So faith is knowing that God is there just like we know the wind is there, even though we do not see them.
I LOVE the "oooohhh, I get it" look. It's usually accompanied by a smile that warms my heart.

Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
