Week 3 of the first 8 chapters of Luke from the Good Morning Girls study. *My notes*
Monday - Week 3
Scripture
Luke 3:5&6
5 Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth.
6 And all people will see God’s salvation.’”
Observation
*If the valleys and mountains are level you would be able to see far away/see clearly.
* Talking about our lives without Christ, crooked and rough but will become straight and smooth with Christ.
* All will see God's salvation!
Application
Be clear when you're sharing the gospel. What is the message? God loves you and sent His Son Jesus to die for yours and my sins so we can live eternally with Him. This is a gift, a free gift! You have to believe this to be saved.
I didn't read anything in there that said, except the bad side of town was so messed up those roads were just left the way they were. There are no exceptions. God wants all of us to be smooth. To see clearly. To live eternally with Him. He wants the best for His children.
All will see, hear and know of His salvation.
We just need to be willing to share, simply open our mouths in a desire to speak truth and God will speak through us.
Tuesday - Week 3
Scripture
Luke 3:7-9 (Luke 3:8&9)
8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
Observations
* John speaking to the crowd coming to be baptized.
* Repent - to feel regret and dedicate yourself to fix it.
* Stay humble/repentant and you will continue to grow and produce fruit.
* You are not saved simply because you come from Abraham's family.
Application
John didn't want baptism to be a fad. "Everyone's doing it so we should too." He was saying that you have to have a change of heart, be repentant first and stay repentant. That when we are repentant we will continue to produce fruit. Produce fruit... What does that mean to you? When a tree (us) is well established and watered regularly (in the word, praying, growing closer to God) it will produce fruit. Usually it takes time before you start to see this fruit. Sometimes it could be a year or two, sometimes it could be 5-10 years. But John encourages us to keep on with a repentant heart. If your heart is right and your intentions are pure (I just want to please God), you will produce fruit. Keep on.
John emphasized again with the next part of how it is a personal heart change. You can not rely on the salvation of your parents/family for your salvation.
Who wants a tree in their yard taking up space that produces bad fruit? I wouldn't want a bitter plum tree or a tasteless apple tree. It would get cut down and tossed. As will we if we know the truth yet produce bad fruit; because then we wouldn't be beneficial to His garden.
Wednesday - Week 3
Scripture
Luke 3:10-14 (Luke 3:10&11)
10 “What should we do then?” the crowd asked.
11 John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”
Observations
* Crowd wanting to know the answers "what should we do?"
* Share what we have with those who do not have.
Application
I find it interested that John said "two shirts". Don't we all have way more than 2 shirts!? So regardless if we have an Over abundance, just the fact that we have Any means we need to share or give to those who have None. I find myself repeating on an almost daily basis "How do we treat others?" and then my kids say, "Treat others how you want to be treated." ;)
Note: Be prayerful with how God wants to use you to bless others. I'll ask you in a couple days what you feel God is telling you. :)
Thursday - week 3
Scripture
Luke 3:15-18 (Luke 3:16&17)
16 John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Observations
* John felt let to explain that he was not the Messiah. That even he, who the people thought could be the Messiah, said he was unworthy to touch the Messiah's sandals.
* The Messiah will baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire (purification-purify us).
* He will gather the saved and the unsaved will be burned up.
Application
John was humble and his message was clear. He did not want anyone to praise him or put a false hope in him. He was doing his job of proclaiming that Jesus, the Messiah was coming soon. How do you apply this?
Be humble...
Speak truth...
Do my job...
Be humble because the only reason I am able to breath, walk, talk, hear, speak or smile is because God made me this way. He is the reason I am here. I can not take credit for something I had nothing to do with creating.
Speak truth because John did not sugar coat what is going to happen. If we're always passive about judgement then who is going to take it seriously? It is real. It is going to happen.
Do my job. My job is to raise my children in the Lord and pray for them to be world changers, to do mighty things for the Lord's kingdom. To be an example of who Jesus is yet show them that I am, and no one is perfect and that is why we need a Savior. That God forgives us and always is there for us. That is MY job.
Friday - Week 3
Scripture
Luke 3:19-38 (Luke 3:22)
22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
Observations
* After Jesus was baptized the Holy Spirit came upon him, those who were present saw it.
* God proclaiming that Jesus is His Son.
Application
As Jesus was still praying the heaven's opened... When we pray God hears us immediately. The Holy Spirit is our direct link to Him. It's not, "please leave a message and I'll get back to you." Can you imagine!?! I'm so glad He hears my prayers!
We are to pray without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17) and it is never in vain.
What a sight to see the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus! When we ask Christ into our heart we immediately feel changed, new, a feeling of belonging because now we are a child of God. It is a wonderful feeling to be wrapped in His blanket of love!
The word's that God said to Jesus, "You are My son, whom I love;"
We are all children of God, daughter's of the Holy One, whom He loves!
I desire to love like God, unconditionally.
